Provide an Emergency First Aid Response

in an Education & Care Setting

 

This course provides the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults and specifically applies to educators and support staff working within an education and care setting who are required to respond to a first aid emergency, including asthmatic and anaphylactic emergencies.

 

This unit of competency satisfies the requirements set for approved first aid, asthma and anaphylaxis for child careers and educators in a childcare setting. (Specific licensing requirements should be obtained from your body and relevant state WHS authority)

 

COURSE CONTENT

 

  • D.R.S.A.B.C.D. action plan
  • Use of two different types of placebo bronchodilators and a spacer device
  • Use of two different types of adrenalin auto injector training devices
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator
  • Complete incident, injury, trauma and illness record, or other appropriate workplace incident report form
  • Hazard and risk assessment and strategies to minimize risks
  • Principles of first aid and chain of survival Basic anatomy and physiology considerations in the provision of first aid and triggers of asthmatic and allergic reactions
  • Basic anatomical differences between a child and an adult
  • Legal, workplace and community considerations
  • Infection control
  • Effective communication in an incident
  • Risk assessment and evaluation of first aid performance

PREREQUISITES: NONE

COURSE DURATION: 1 Day

COST: $140.00 PER PERSON

  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic and anaphylactic reactions
  • Asthma
  • Altered and loss of consciousness
  • Asphyxia due to body position
  • Basic wound care
  • Severe Bleeding
  • Burns
  • Cardiac arrest using single rescuer procedure and seamless changeover between operators, infant, child and adult
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillator including specific considerations for infant, child and adults
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Drowning
  • Envenomation
  • Environmental impacts
  • Fractures, sprains and strains
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Medical conditions including epilepsy, diabetes, stroke and seizures
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Respiratory distress
  • Shock
  • Minor skin injuries
  • Unconscious casualty

Evaluation Method

 

Continuous assessment

Participants are required to pass both practical and theory assessment

COURSE AWARD

 

Provide First Aid certificate (valid for 3 years from date of issue)
