Provide Advanced First Aid

Formerly HLTFA404C Apply Advanced Resuscitation Techniques

The course applies to individuals who may be required to use specialised equipment to provide resuscitation in a range of complex situations, including community and workplace settings. This course provides the skills and knowledge to use equipment: using the oxy-viva 3 resuscitator or similar Advanced Resuscitation is the minimum course requirement where a person requires the skills and knowledge in the use of advanced resuscitation equipment.

A statement of attainment is issued to successful participants. Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that CPR skills be refreshed every 12 months. The price includes GST, which is only payable on the reference materials provided in the course.

COURSE CONTENT

 

  • Apply emergency action principles [DRSABCD]
  • Legal issues and infection control
  • Principle of first aid & the chain of survival
  • Basic anatomy, physiology and toxicology relating to advanced life support
  • Airway obstruction
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR]
  • Follow the prompts of an Automated External Defibrillator [AED]
  • Stress management awareness
  • Prepare resuscitation equipment ready for use
  • Demonstrate safe handling of bag-vale-mask ventilation and compression
  • Perform Advanced Resuscitation
  • Administer oxygen to an unconscious casualty
  • Operate suction equipment
  • Clear the airway using a suction device
  • Insert an oropharyngeal airway
  • Perform secondary survey including pulse checks
  • Restore and maintain equipment ready for future use, identifying and rectifying any faults
  • Maintenance of resuscitation equipment

PREREQUISITES: NONE

COURSE DURATION: 5.0 Hours

COST: $150.00 PER PERSON

Minimum of 8 students

 

Evaluation Method

 

Ongoing class assessment and a theory assessment

COURSE AWARD

 

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. To maintain current competency, this course is to be refreshed every 12 months.
